WrtKaidCommander: Manage KAI engine on the WRT54 using XBMC

Hello everybody. I have done a python script for the XBMC, that is able to install, restart and stop the kai engine on a WRT54 Alchemy 6 or HyperWRT router.

This was needed, as the kai engine crashes from time to time, and I didn't want to restart it using the PC again. So here it is, my WrtKaidCommander. Smile

Works great for me, hope, it will help you, too. Installation instructions are found in the zip file: readme.txt. Sorry, english is not my mother tongue, I hope you understand everything. Smile

Btw: What ROM are you using on your WRT? Is it an Alchemy 6 like mine, or do you have another ROM? It is interesting to know, where it works and where it doesn't. I learned, that it won't work on the "hyperwrt", this seems to be a ROM, I don't know yet. But I'm confident, that it will work with it in the near future, as I was supplied with very good informations how this ROM works.

I realy loved the WRT kai engine found on these pages and I'm happy, if I can do this very little part to help enhancing the usability of it! Thanks guys!

I have done an update to the WrtKaidCommander. Now it will load the software needed for the WRT to the XBox Webserver directory and will install it from there. This will save a lot bandwidth of the developers webserver and makes everything much more easy for the user, as no PC is needed anymore for this task and some cryptic configurations needed before have vanished.

Download it from the link submitted in the first post.

P.S.: Added HyperWRT support, rebooting does not work yet, but all the kaid stuff is tested and working.

P.P.S.: Rebooting the HyperWRT now works, too.

Your script will definatly save me support calls. (though he pays in beer).

Wow thanks so much!!! Having to constantly use my pc was the only gripe that I had about kaid on my wrt so far (except my wierd connection problem) and this will make my life a million times easier Smile

This is just another example of why I want to become a programmer, not to work at some big $$ hungry company but to make things that are truly useful to a bunch of people.

P.S. Right now I use Alchemy RC3 so once I get my connection problem sorted out I will test the script and post if it works on this version.

If KAID is loaded on the WRT54GS (what I think), it should work with the GS, too. Perhaps you should give it a try and report after. It's easy to install and to use, so there is nothing to loose.

ok, well I'm having a few issues

first off I'm running the machine wirelessly(almost always will be 2), and since I'm wirelessly Setup, do I need 2 enter my Wireless MAC address as the XBOX MAC address?, if so then what about when the system is not Wireless? like should I enter "11:11:11:11:11:11;22:22:22:22:22:22:" as the MAC Address?

OK when I try 2 Download the files to my XBOX using the script I get the Error, Trouble getting Files from Developer Server?

also I am using the latest ROM from the link in the Readme(Alchemy 6)

I hope, this is a temporary problem. The Developers Webserver is down at the moment... I don't know another link for getting the KAID engine yet.

shitty, I'm also having issues finding other links, could you possibly PM my the Files? also would I just stick them into the web folder? under my XBMC installation?

Yes, you would put these two files in the XBMC webserver dir (this is, what the WrtKaidCommander does, too). I can send these files to you, but I don't see an option for attaching files to PM's? Did I miss something?

Hey guys, I just installed alchemy 6 rc1 and tried using wrtkaidcommander.py, but the site to download the install files are down. Is there somewhere I can get kaid (mips) ? If someone has it for me, plz msg me or send a link. I will be happy to host a www mirror for everyone else.
