I have no clue...

I'm getting a PSP when the US Release comes about. But I am uber confused. I have a Wired router that starts on the first floor of my house near my father's computer. It links thru a wall hack (that's what I call it, its a gizmo that lets you bridge internet thru your electrical circuit). My router ceased working four days ago (in the middle of the night), I called NetGear, they say it's not a hardware problem, but a configuration problem (if any of you networkin gurus could help me I would love it). Anyway, this discourages me to get a new router, seeing as if it truly IS a configuration problem, the next one wont work, either. My computer, which is upstairs, has an integrated gigabit ethernet port. What would I need to do to get my PSP to work online upstairs?
