This post cover SOCOM2, SOCOM 3, and SOCOM CA patch compatible issues.

SOCOM 2 patch compatible issues

On SOCOM 2 patch players and non-patch players can't play together. The SOCOM 2 community is mostly non-patch players so if you got the patch we recommend you follow one of the options we got listed below for you can play with non-patch players. We don't recommend deleting the patch and we have few reasons why we don't recommend below.

Why you may want to keep the SOCOM 2 patch

Reason 1
You will not be able to play with SOCOM 2 HDD maps without the patch.

Reason 2
If you delete patch you will also lose your SOCOM 2 game save. You can still play SOCOM 2 with non-patch players and keep your game save by following option 4 at the bottom of this post.

Reason 3
If group of patch players make a room you won't be able to play in it. As the patch fixed some exploits, bugs and other things. So game play may be more enjoyable playing patch.

SOCOM 3 patch compatible issues

On SOCOM 3 patch and non-patch players can't play together, but we strongly recommend you don't delete the patch and that you follow options on how to keep patch below. Also please read reasons why you may want to keep SOCOM 3 patch before taking any action.

Why you may want to keep the SOCOM 3 patch

Reason 1
Map packs won't work without patch.

Reason 2
You won't be able to play with CA players if you get rid of the patch.

Reason 3
If group of patch players make a room you won't be able to play in it. As the patch fixed some exploits, bugs and other things. So game play may be more enjoyable playing patch.

SOCOM CA patch compatible issues

SOCOM CA non-patch players and patch players can play together so if you have patch you can keep it. There is some side effects, but most people play with the patch on CA. The side effects are patch and non-patch players can't play Control Points, or Extraction together, but these game modes are rarely played anyway.

Why you may want to keep the SOCOM CA patch

SOCOM CA patch patched lot of issues that could make game more enjoyable. A few improvement with patch are: gun fire rate don't save after you die, or next round has been fixed, headset symbol size change depending on how far away the player is, being able to use unlock weapons in classic matches on CA maps, vehicles spawning invisible has been fixed, and more, but those are some of major improvements.

Options on how to not load the patch. Options listed work for SOCOM2, 3 and CA

Option 1 Use other memory card that don't got the patch and remove the patch memory card.

Option 2 Back up the patch to other memory card, or any mass device. Then delete the patch on the memory card.

Option 3 Just delete the patch. Not recommend.

Option 4 Take the patch memory card out before SOCOM 2 loads up and insert back in on main loading screen. If you pick this option you will still have access to your old game save data. Note on SOCOM3/CA the game save is other file that is 500kb and there no reason to delete that unless you just don't want it anymore.
