Slow transfer speeds

I have always been able to transfer at about 10 megs a seconds using c-xbox tool or Qwix or Flash FXP for straight file transfer to my xbox (both avalaunch and now xbmc). But about a week ago I started having a inconsistent transfer speed. It will transfer big files pretty fast but when pushing through smaller files there is a noticable speed drop. (100k max) now I thought that it may be my network cable from my router (sveasoft wrt54gs running Talisman 1.04) to my xbox and after switching it I did see it go back to normal for about 1 - 2 days. Then slow transfer speeds again.
So my thoughts are that maybe my firmware for my router has bugs for ftp transfers of this type, or that my settings for ftp on xbox or computer are wrong (pasv, boost mode?) or, the fact that I have dmz hosting on my packet 8 phone is interfering, Or that I need to have port forwarding turned on or something, Or my xbox bios (latest bios for x3) has a bug or my xbox nic is going out?

Truth is I dont know what the Hell is going on! Lol, can someone help me?
