does anyone know when the psp is coming out in the US? im thinking of importing one as i live in the uk but i dont want to get the japanese games as im not japanese. i also want to watch the movies and i heard that although the psp games are region free, the movies are not. does anyone know if you could buy the movies from a shop in the uk when the psp was released that you would be able to play them on a US unit? |

The Japanese PSP and its games are labeled "Region 2" on the box, which is the same region as Europe (just like in DVDs).
This pretty much means you will most likely be able to play European UMD movies in a Japanese PSP, since the region is the same.
Since you're from the UK/Europe (like I am), I'd go with either a Japanese PSP or a European PSP, completly ignoring the US PSP for the reasons mentioned.
Side note: Just using pure logic here, since we don't know if they'll use the DVD Region standards for the PSP, but if they do, that's what will happen. |

If you don't mind me asking, what region are you in? if you don't want to answer it's cool, just wondering.... |

Sounds cool to me. ^_^
I'm from the region of Porto.
Don't have a PSP yet (already played Ridge Racers in one though, fell in love with it), but I'll get one pretty soon; just waiting for my local importer to have it for sale, they only have the display PSP for now (the one I played).
Glad you like Portugal. ^_^
See you around, Gamelver. |

March is apparently the scheduled release date.
But, as I said in my first post, with the US PSP you won't be able to play media from the JP nor the EU version, both labeled "Region 2", while the US will be labeled "Region 1".
It's much like the current DVD regional areas, the EU DVDs can be played in JP DVD Players and vice versa, since they have the same region.
Since you're from Europe (it says you're from the UK, so I'm presuming you didn't lie), this would affect you, unless you don't really intend on buying UMD movies.
If you do, take that into consideration and ignore the US release date, specially since the JP PSP has an english language setting in the options. |
