Been a few of these posts from new users recently so thought I'd mention...
If you're sure everything else is correctly set-up and if the ONLY problem appears to be that your PSP freezes (and sometime powers off too) then 9 times out of 10, it means you're using the wrong version of the AdhocToUSB.prx.
There are in total four versions of this file, for CFW's 5.03 up to 6.60.
Please Google about a bit to find the right version of the .prx file for your PSP's CFW.

After hours of goofing around with CFW's (thought that was the problem), it turns out it was the PRX file the whole time causing those Online Gathering Hall crashes.
