*** DONATION WINDOW NOW CLOSED ***

As many of you know, our sponsor left us some time ago and I moved everything to a colocation in Toronto. Our current setup is a Celeron 2.4 with 512M of RAM... essentially hardware I had available at the time. Although things are staying afloat, the server is definately feeling the strain.

Anyhow, I priced out the cost of a Dual Pentium 2.66 with 2 gig of ram and a new motherboard... about $500. So, I've decided to ask our members for a helping hand in raising the funds to upgrade the server. If you would like to contribute, kindly do so but please don't go overboard.... $5-$10 would be great. Once we've gotten close to the cost of a new box, I will remove the paypal button from the main site: www.teamxlink.co.uk.

Thanks to those who have contributed so far! It's very encouraging for XLink staff and developers to see all you pull together when the hat is being passed around.

Unfortunately, we can only accept paypal payments. If you would like to donate and do not have a paypal account please try and find a friend or clan member who can donate on your behalf.

MeanMF and I were reveiewing the current server stats last night. The new XLink One chat server is using half of available RAM with only 2 users connected. Clearly, it needs to be upgraded and we appreciate everyone helping us do so.

I just meant... email money transfer or something... I know I cant do that if he was to live in the States. P and I both live in Ontario... so something should have been do-able.

there are 1643 people on line right now. That's about 30 cents each... and with the sterling dollar exchange so good at the mo, that's peanuts!

seriously, it's not much to ask for from people who have given so much. i know personally that andy and pete have chucked time and money at this project and my donation may just cover the costs of me logging on each day since 2003.

a personal highlight that teamxlink has brought me, which makes my donation so worthwhile, is when andy had to call his sister for help on completing splinter cell 2 and 3. hehehe

Hehehe... now I wonder what percentage paypal would take on a 30 cent donation? Razz

Seriously, though, volume is definately the key. Sadly, to date, only 15 people have contributed thusfar. I had hoped there would 50-100 people out there with available funds and paypal accounts willing to support our efforts and help move us forward.

People have suggested to me that we should move to a pay for access model or subsidize our operating costs through banner ads and whatnot. I don’t know really… I would sooner see the Team XLink project end than turn it into some sort of commercial entity. What do you think?

Banner ads? Pay to play? What would TD think? Lets keep with the spirit of Kai if more money doesn't start flowing in soon I will foot the bill. No to pay to play. No to banner ads.
